Dominic Greene’s last meal (aka Blood & Sand & Oil)
I bet you make it twenty seconds before you consider drinking this. Quantum of Solace’s oily villain gets a taste of his own medicine in this variation of a classic cocktail. Warning: the chaser may invoke a deeply satisfying sense of schadenfreude.
The ‘Blood & Sand’ was created in 1922 to promote a movie starring heartthrob (and gay icon) Rudolph Valentino. The original recipe uses Scotch as the base spirit. I’ve remixed it with bourbon, which Greene is offered by his CIA contacts.
Put the following in a cocktail shaker with large ice:
50ml bourbon
20ml cherry brandy
20ml Italian (red) vermouth
20ml blood orange juice
Stir until ice cold and strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with a thin slice of apple peel - an apple is the last thing Greene eats.
Fill a shot glass with Kraken dark spiced rum to simulate motor oil, the very last thing Green drinks.
